Our high quality IT department has a fully functional integrated network running a fiber optic backbone and WIFI connecting all areas of the campus to file server. There are approximately 90 computer desktop PC’s and laptops in use throughout the school.
Our newly revamped computer lab, consisting of 36 desktop pcs with full internet access for research purposes, runs through a constantly updated content filter which prevents any undesirable content being filtered though.
The CAPS curriculum requires additional time to be spent on Math’s and English each week. IT enhances this portion of the curriculum through the “IXL” internet based mathematics program, and two reading programs: “Cami Reader” and “Readers are Leaders”. These programmes reinforce what learners have covered in class and reinforce the learning outcomes.
Every classroom (including specialist venues) is networked, has WIFI coverage, a data projector, and sound system. This enables the class teachers to utilise interactive and exciting approaches to classroom based lessons. Learners have the advantage of being able to experience events, news, information that are current and relevant to the work they are covering at any given time. Integrating IT into the academic curriculum provides a basic level of computer expertise to all our learners.
Electronic communication and social platforms are an integral part of modern society. WSPS is recognized as a top achiever amongst KZN schools in using the D6 communicator to broadcast news and alerts to parents. Our communities worldwide can also follow us on our Facebook and twitter pages.
