The excitement of our senior Marimba Band members was tangible as they had their final tour meeting yesterday evening. They are heading to Tom Newby School in Gauteng to compete in the international Marimba Band and Steelpan Festival.
The many hours of hard work and commitment was clearly evident as they gave a pre-tour performance to the parents and sponsors. Judging by the enthusiasm and expertise on display, we are confident they will produce an excellent performance to make themselves and their school proud.
Thank you to Mr Barry Oosthuyzen for all the hard work organising all the complex logistics for this tour together. Not only will they be performing and competing with some of the best bands around, but they will also experience the excitement of the “Acrobranch obstacle course challenge”, visit Montecasino for the spectacular “Slava’s Snow Show”, practice gumboot and flamenco dancing, and receive advanced marimba training. It is going to be a truly memorable trip!
Thanks also to all the parents for their support and endless hours spent fundraising. Those who attended the “Marimbas in the Park” fundraiser will be aware of the exceptional effort these parents have made in support of this tour.
Special thanks to Hawks for their continuing sponsorship of our marimba band. Tours like this are not possible without such generous support and we are extremely grateful for your recognition and encouragement of our performers and school. All of us in the WSPS family wish our touring team the best of luck!
