The importance of music and cultural pursuits in bringing a community together was once again highlighted when our inaugural “Marimbas in the Park” tour fundraiser brought hundreds of people to the Wandsbeck Oval on a perfect winter afternoon last Sunday. The sounds of music, laughter and camaraderie amidst the craft stalls and musical talents on display made for a special afternoon. The event was used to raise funds for the Senior Bands tour to Johannesburg at the end of July. We would like to thank the Westville Schools’ Orchestra, and the Marimba bands from both Westville Girls’ High School and Westville Senior Primary School.
A special reunion was held for the Marimba Band of 2014 who came together to perform for the first time since 2014. With the great weather, music and loads of prizes to be won, a brilliant time was had by all proving that Culture and Music at Westville Senior Primary School is alive and growing and I would to thank all the parents who assisted in putting this function together.
